HOW
TO BECOME A 'HAM"
Just about anyone can become an amateur radio operator and earn their FCC license regardless of age. You will need to pass an exam from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) administered by amateur radio volunteers.
For starters, if you haven't already done so, visit the American Radio Relay League's (ARRL) "HELLO" website for a more comprehensive description of what amateur radio is all about. The ARRL is the national organization for amateur radio.
If you want to study on your own, we have linked
some great web sites to help you study for your
license; view a power
point presentation; and locate places where to take your
test. We
also recommend you purchase
"Now You're Talking" from the ARRL
as your study guide. This book contains all the theory/FCC
rules/regulations you will need to know to pass the test. It also contains all the
questions and answers for the Technician test. Many folks have gone
through the study guide and have taken the practice tests over and over until
they were scoring at an acceptable level to easily pass at exam time.
